| Regression testing is similar in scope to a functional test. A regression test allows a consistent, repeatable validation of each new release of an application. Regression testing is performed to ensure whether past reported defects have been corrected for each new release and to also confirm that no new bugs were inadvertently introduced in the modified code. Also, this type of testing is done to ensure that no degradation of baseline functionality has occurred. Regression testing can be performed manually or in an automated manner. Automation is often used to reduce time and resources needed to perform regression tests. Automation thus benefits in terms of time, effort and cost, which reduces with each successive iteration. |
